Lakeside Challenge

On Friday, 10th March, Miss Warren and Mr Riley took five Year 9 students to the Lakeside School´s Challenge in North Cumbria.

Due to an unforeseen injury, we were only able to take five (rather than the full team of six), but that did not deter these girls at all: Emma Gelsthorpe, Courtney Hopwood, Ella Howard, Mizata Kamara and Jennifer Okerenta.

The weekend was built around planning and decision making in an outdoor setting, whilst working under pressure and to a time limit. The girls were challenged both physically and mentally all weekend, in wild and windy conditions; as well as working with the constraints of having one less participant in their team. Our students were involved in activities which included: raft building and racing, a night expedition, archery and a giant swing test. They had to plan and pick out the challenges they thought they would score the highest in, be the most successful in and then take part in them to the best of their ability.

The girls absolutely went above and beyond our expectations in every single event. Their determination, resilience and positive attitude was truly outstanding and made the Hinde House staff incredibly proud of them. There were eight schools taking part in that weekend and we came second in that category, which is superb considering we had the smallest team. Overall, we came eighth out of the eighteen schools nationwide, which is testament to these girls and how hard they worked. They were an absolute credit to themselves and Hinde House, and we are very proud of their achievements.
