Chance to Shine Cricket Project

For the past ten weeks, students from the New Start Centre have been engaged in a cricket project during their PE lessons.

They now have a good knowledge and understanding of the game as well as being able to apply their bowling, batting and fielding skills.

The cricket coach, Dave Lennox, commented how well the students progressed over the weeks and he thoroughly enjoyed working with such energetic students that have the commitment to learning and achieving.

After completing their ten weeks of cricket, the students were offered the chance to be Young Leaders for an Education Day at Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds. There were around six hundred Primary school children taking part in various activities and the Young Leaders from Hinde House School worked in pairs to run a variety of cricket stations.

The organisers of the event commented; “I would like to say thank you very much for supporting this event at Headingley. Your students behaved impeccably and represented your school in a way that sometimes students don’t get any recognition for. I would not hesitate to ask you for support with future events.”

All the students that went on the trip behaved fantastically and even though their English language is not fluent, they all led their stations very well and communicated with the children and staff exceptionally. It was a pleasure to lead the students and offer an opportunity for them to experience something new and exciting.
