Brigantia Update and Trust Leadership Structure

Letter from Mike Westerdale CEO Brigantia Learning Trust Dear Parent/Carer I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a belated happy new year from all of the Brigantia Learning Trust.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a belated happy new year from all of the Brigantia Learning Trust.

I have now been in post for a full term and I have been amazed and humbled by the commitment and dedication of the staff within the Trust across all of our five academies and marvelled at the talent and enthusiasm of our students.

Much has happened since I started, not least, two visits from Ofsted; one as part of the LA inspection with regards to SEND and one at Longley Park Sixth Form, where I was delighted to read the report and hear the feedback from the Inspection Team, which confirmed Longley Park remains a ‘Good’ educational provider. I am indebted to Mo Nisbet (Principal) and her Leadership Team and staff for this excellent result and judgement.

A lot has changed within the Trust since September when I started and I must formally welcome to the Trust Leadership structure Joanne Cornelius as Director of Academies (Primary) and Victoria Simcock (Executive Principal: Hinde House 2-16). In addition, I would like to thank Linda Hoyle who is now working as Principal at Wincobank and Concord, supported by Nicola Sherwood and Tracy O’Malley as Heads of School.

With Andrew Kelly being made substantive Principal of Yewlands Academy from 1 November 2018, I am now delighted to have an incredibly strong, innovative and inspiring team to lead the education provision within your community, ensuring that we strive to get the best out of every young person. I have no doubt that Brigantia Learning Trust has one of the strongest teams in the region, for which I am very grateful.

Equally, I am grateful to the many volunteers who make up our governance structures, both at local and Trust level. The support and challenge they provide certainly keeps myself and my leadership colleagues on our toes on your behalf.

As we look forward to the remainder of the academic year, I need to advise you that all of the academies pre 16 (Wincobank, Concord, Hinde House and Yewlands) will break up for the summer on Friday 19 July 2019, which will enable myself, the Trust Leadership Team and the Academies Principals to ensure the professional development of all the colleagues within the Trust is of the highest standard. All of the Brigantia Learning Trust teaching staff are required by statute to work the equivalent of 195 days (1265 hours) and this will be the case in 2018/19 also.

I am extremely grateful to the Trust Directors who have supported the leadership’s desire to be ahead of the game and plan for the new changes announced recently by the DfE and Ofsted. I will ensure all information on the Trust website and associated academy websites are amended accordingly.

As the year progresses I intend to give you termly updates from the Trust to complement the newsletter you already receive from the academies. I will continue to look forward to meeting as many of you as I can within the academies at various events which are held throughout the year.
